The Boone Companion
Dances of mid-seventeenth-century England from
the Pattricke, Sloane, Lansdowne mss. & Playford
Played on instruments of the period by
The Granary Musicians
directed from the harpsichord by David Gordon
The music on this CD has been arranged to accompany 18 dances from
three unpublished manuscripts from the mid-seventeenth century :
the Pattricke (Lovelace) ms. (Pattricke MSEng 1356)
the Sloane ms. (MS Sloane 3858)
the Lansdowne ms. (MS Lansdowne 1115)
Since these manuscripts contain no music notation, appropriate music has
been selected by Paul Kent from contemporary sources.
In addition, music has also been arranged to accompany two dances from
The English Dancing Master (Playford 1st ed., 1651).
This aim of the recording has been to provide music both for the dances
as well as for enjoyable listening.
An instruction book on how to perform all these dances has been written by
Ann and Paul Kent. It bears the same title as this CD and may be obtained
from the Historical Dance Society through its website:
